a Little bit about alex

Alex M. Lacey, a Northern Writers’ Award-winning author from the North of England, grew up surrounded by characters who were never short for words or adventures to share. And in a family where storytelling was as natural as breathing, Alex’s love for narrative was inevitable.

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis first captivated Alex, offering a depth beyond the Peter & Jane stories of his primary school days. As he grew, he delved into the worldbuilding and satire of Terry Pratchett, the heart and grit of Stephen King, the elegance and wit of Raymond Chandler and Elmore Leonard, the mind-bending originality of Phillip K. Dick and Hunter S. Thompson, and the fearlessness and minimalism of Chuck Palahniuk. These authors didn't just entertain—they shaped his worldview and writing style.

One driving force behind his Northern Souls series of science fiction novels was the desire to inject a northern working-class voice into a genre often dominated by American and southern/London-centric stories. Alex saw a glaring gap in representation and felt a deep compulsion to fill it. His excitement grew from the idea of merging a minimalist literary style, championed by the likes of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway, with the expansive themes of science fiction.

Alex’s goal is to craft realistic, relatable tales that explore contemporary societal and global issues in an entertaining, engaging, and thought-provoking manner. Through his unique perspective and distinct voice, he aims to breathe fresh air into the genre, ensuring that every reader finds a piece of themselves in his stories.
